Picture this, your favourite small round cake has arrived. It looks awesome and you know it will taste delicious too but more people than expected have shown up to your party and everyone wants a slice. You want to share, but what do you do? How do you make this small round cake reach everyone equally? How do you cut a small round cake and get as many slices as possible?
If you have a small round cake, usually you can get 10 - 12 slices out of a small 8 inch round cake. However with this method you can get so much more slices. The key with this method is not to cut triangular slices but to cut rectangular slices. Cutting rectangular cake slices will give you much more cake to go around.
First steps to cutting a cake, have a sharp clean knife handy. It sounds obvious but I have been to an event when they tried to cut a cake with a spoon! I strongly recommend using a knife. Next, remove any toppers that may get in the way of smooth cutting of the cake such as flowers, figurines or toppers.
Start by cutting the cake in half. The next slice should be in the same vertical line as the first slice you made. The width of this slice should be the length of about a third of your finger. This would mean that all of your initial slices are parallel.
Next cut the third slice in the same vertical line as the second line. Making sure that the two lines are parallel.
Keep cutting the cake this way, until you have cut an equal width of long slices across the whole cake.
Now you want to cut horizontally. Avoid the edges, cut the width which is the size of a third of your finger.
After this you will have two semicircle edges of cake. For the edges that are just semicircle shapes, cut these edges into three slices.
And viola, you will have at least 24 slices from a small round cake of 8 inches instead of 10 - 12 triangular slices. Now there is enough cake for all.
In our short video we show you step by step how we cut the small 8 inch cake to get the most slices out of the cake. Following this method below will help you cut thin rectangles from a round cake. This will help you to get 24 slices from a small 8 inch cake or 38 slices from a medium 10 inch cake or 50 slices from a large 12 inch cake.
